On Friday, August 7th at 8:30 AM we will hike the Point Buchon Trail to the coast and head south toward Diablo Canyon.   We will pass through a PG&E guard station on the way to the coast.  You will be able to get great pictures of the nuclear power plant.  We will walk along the coastal ridge, and you will be able to visit a section of the shoreline that has collapsed into the ocean to form a sort of "blowhole" that functions when the waves and tide are right.

This is an EASY hike with an HHI difficulty factor of only 24.93.  It is 5.4 miles long.  The difference between the highest and lowest point on the hike is only 210 feet.  The cumulative total of all up waypoints is only 530 feet.

 

The hike starts at the Coon Creek Parking lot in Montana de Oro.  

 

TO GET THERE  From the intersection of Los Osos Valley Road and South Bay Drive in Los Osos, drive 2.5 miles southwest on Los Osos Valley Road to the Montana de Oro State Park entrance sign.  (En route, Los Osos Valley Road becomes Pecho Valley Road).  From the entrance sign, continue 3.9 miles to the trailhead parking lot on the left end of the road.  It is 1.3 miles past the visitor center.  Cell phone service is typically NOT available so keep that in mind for navigation purposes.
