On Friday, May 15, 2026 at 8:30 AM we will take a rest from our last HARD hike with a SOFT hike along the Johnson Ranch Trail south of San Luis Obispo. This is a 3.9 mile hike with a 319 foot elevation change that takes about 2.5 hours. The total of UP waypoints is 696 feet. As you can see from the map below, we will be hiking clockwise, against the Coriolis effect. Going clockwise places the steeper part of the hike at the start which is why we are doing it this way. At the top right corner of the map you will see what looks like an appendix. It is not a mistake. It is a detour to sit on a bench that over looks Hwy 101. The mistake is in the LOWER right hand corner where somebody briefly drove off and forgot to turn off their recording GPS.

HOW TO GET THERE: See Map Below.
1) From the Edna Valley: Follow the BLUE ARROWS. Take S. Higuera south until it passes under Hwy 101 and then turn RIGHT onto Ontario Road and into the parking lot.
2) Traveling South on Hwy 101: Follow the RED ARROWS. Take the S. Higuera Street Exit. Before it swings all the way around and goes under the freeway, take the LEFT exit to Ontario Rd. and into the parking lot. When making the turn, be alert to opposite traffic.
3) Traveling North on Hwy 101: Follow the YELLOW ARROWS. Take the Higuera Street Exit and then LEFT onto Clover, then LEFT again under the freeway, and then RIGHT onto Ontario Rd. and into parking lot.
