Prior to the hike, Carl Berney, the stone sculptor, suggested that we add a short appendix to the most northerly tip of the route to allow a view of 101. It was a great idea and we even found a bench waiting for us at the overlook. A picture taken from the bench and of Carl is shown below.  To understand the location of the “appendix” take a look at the picture to the right.  North is at the bottom.  The regular Johnson Ranch Trail is the line in green with a dotted line down the middle.  Imagine that it is the large intestine and the appendix sits at the end of it.  It is actually the start of the Filipponi trail which connects all the way to Costco.  This is the kind of stuff hikers get excited about.
