On Friday, December 5, 2025 we hiked Islay Hill.  If you look carefully, you can see the SLO airport control tower in the background above.  It was a fairly short 2.4 miles. Total UP waypoints was 861 feet.  Maximum elevation 784 with an elevation change of 711 feet.  Total UP waypoints 861 feet.

Although we have done this hike before, a strange doughnut shape on the opposite side of Orcutt road from La Lomita Ranch caught our eye.  You can see it in the pictures below in front of a gathering of water tanks.  The perfectly round shape and flat top edge makes it stand out.  Russ looked back over a history of satellite images.  It has been there since at least 1994.  Most of the time it is empty, but sometimes it has water in it.  The inside is steep and cone shaped.  It looks like a giant Ant Lion trap.  The first RAM hiker to come up with a definitive answer gets special recognition.  Thank you Shiana for the photos.
