At 8:30 AM on Friday, November 21, 2025 the rain stopped completely, the clouds parted and suddenly it was a bright sunny day over dry trails without a sign of mud. More injuries than the San Francisco 49'ers resulted in about 8 people who had originally planned to go dropping out. With only eight hikers, we dispensed with the sign-in list. Starting at the Bob Jones trail head we walked about 9/10 of a mile to the link up with the trail that led across the footbridge over San Luis Creek into the Sycamore Springs Resort. As we headed up the hill toward the coast, we noticed that the signage on the Adventure Building had changed. As shown on the map below, it is still the Adventure Building, but despite inquiries, we have been unable to find out what goes on in the dozen or so rooms with no windows. Apparently what happens in the Adventure Building stays in the Adventure Building. We are thinking about taking up a collection to send in Dick Adams (who better?) to find out.

At the top of the hill on the Ontario Ridge Trail, we took the picture above looking South down the coast and then headed back down. After passing back over the footbridge over San Luis Creek, we took a slight detour to the right to visit the Secret Garden. It was about 10:30 AM when we took the picture of the refreshment stand which had just opened. It has a wide variety of things to drink including beers. The picture looks a little smokey because the wood-fired pizza oven was starting. By 11:00 AM you could order a pizza. There is a shortcut from the Secret Garden back onto the Bob Jones Trail. All told, we hiked 4.4 miles in 2:57. We really took our time looking at the beautiful scenery and visiting with each other on this hike. The elevation change was 776 feet with an UP way point total of 1140 feet.
